2. Effect of Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone for theSynthesis of Ceria (CeO 2 ) Nano-Particles by Polyol Mediated Process

Ceria nanoparticles with high phase pure cubic structure were prepared by polyol mediated process with the help of cerium acetate as the starting material and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the capping agent in ethylene glycol as the solvent. The resultant precipitant was washed and then dried. The dried precipitate was thencalcined at 500 °C for 2 h, to get CeO 2 nanoparticles. The obtained product was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) analysis. The XRD results revealed that the particle size is 9.2 nm, calculated using Scherrer’s formula. Specific surface area of CeO 2 was determined from BET analysis and realized maximal value of 66 m 2 /g.
